Towering over Bitola on one side and magical Prespa on the other, Pelister National Park captivates with its special beauty. A fusion of unique flora and fauna that lives between stony rivers, dense mollys and forest trails leading to crystal green-blue lakes. The magic of Pelister was presented to us by those who guard its beauty, the rangers of the national park who know every inch of it and protect this piece of untouched nature that we are proud of.
On an area of about 17,150 hectares and an altitude of about 891 to 2,601 meters above sea level, in the southwestern part of the country between the Prespa Valley and Pelagonia, is located the National Park Pelister, the first national park in Macedonia and in the then Yugoslavia, proclaimed in the distant year 1948. From then until today, this beautiful piece of nature, located between Bitola and Prespa, is home to rare endemic and animal species, a place for rest and recreation and one of the most beautiful protected natural treasures in the country.
Pelister is specific and recognizable in many ways. Its glacial lakes, stone rivers so-called moraines, rich and valuable biodiversity with over 1300 taxa of plants, more than 20 peaks extending to an altitude of over 2,000 meters, about 45 rivers and springs and a rich cultural heritage… Especially attractive for tourists are the two glacial lakes Pelisterski Ochi – the large and small lake also known as “Gorski Ochi”. What it is most recognizable for is the fifth-needle pine, molica.
Begonia was discovered by the German botanist August Griesebach in 1839. It is also found in other countries and mountains of the Balkan Peninsula, but on Pelister it builds the most compact and characteristic forest. Molica is a pioneer species, i.e. it quickly conquers clearings, clearings and rocky areas.

From today, a complete ban on movement in the forests is introduced

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, at the request of PE “National Forests”, consented to introduce a complete ban on movement in forests and forest land. Such consent is given by Article 57, paragraph 3 of the Law on Forests, due to increased danger and prevention of forest fires in open space.
The complete ban on movement in forests and forest land is introduced in the territory managed by PE “National Forests”, and it starts from 15.07.2024 and will last until the day of its revocation, from 06:00 to 20:00 the hour. The complete prohibition of movement in the forests will last until the assessment that the risk of forest fires has decreased. Movement in the forests will be allowed only with written approval issued by PE “National Forests” subsidiaries for the area they manage.
For disobeying this complete ban on movement in forests and forest land, natural persons who are caught moving in forest and forest land, by Article 106 of the Law on Forests, will be fined from 1,500 to 2,000 euros in denars contrariness.
