Pelister National Park, in accordance with Nature Protection Law, has developed a new Management Plan for Pelister National Park for the period of 2021-2025. PONT (Prespa and Ohrid Nature Trust Fund) financially supported the creation of the plan.
The new Management Plan foresees, among other things, the improvement of the management of forest areas. This will be based on an ecosystem approach and adaptation of forest practices in accordance with ecological processes and models.

With this in mind, a “Guide for the management of forests in NP Pelister” was developed to provide guidelines for the future management of forest ecosystems. This introduces a new practice, moving the understanding of forests as “a natural resource in the National Park” to “ecosystems that support high biological diversity and provide a multitude of ecosystem services”, and of its management, which until now has been predominantly an economic use of forests, will now move to a management of forest ecosystems approach.
In order to introduce new, more modern and environmentally acceptable management practices, a long-term plan (2020-2040) has been drawn up. This incorporated activities and years of realisation of beech forest plantations from shoots (vegetative origin) and its translation into plantations from seed (generative) origin from stem native species on an area of 46.85 hectares, ward 20, in SSE Vrtushka. The plan was developed by forestry and ecology consultants, which represents a new model of activities that will be applied in the Pelister National Park. The following is provided for:
Harmonisation of forest management practices and introduction of new more modern and environmentally acceptable practices and principles in forest management.
