Macedonian fir (European silver fir) – Abies alba

Macedonian fir (European silver fir) – Abies alba – is an autochthonous European species of mountain in Europe, and is an evergreen tree that grows to a height of 40–50 m, with a trunk diameter of up to 1.5 m. It occurs at an altitude of 300-1,700 m, mainly over 500 m, in mountains with rainfall over 1,000 mm per year. The leaves are needle-shaped, 1.8–3.0 cm long, glossy dark green on the upper side. Because it grows in wet and shady places, it tries to take the place of the prayer on Pelister, in the insufficiently sunny spaces.
