Ordinary beech – Fagus sylvatica L. – Common beech is a species of deciduous tree of the Fagaceae family. It is the most widespread species in Macedonia. Ordinary beech prefers regions that have mild winters and less hot summers. In our country they are limited to mountainous areas and is very present in Pelister. The common beech is a deciduous tree with a smooth, gray bark. The leaves are entire or partially serrated, 5-15 cm long and 4-10 cm wide. The fruit is small, sharp and angular, 10-15 mm long. It contains a high percentage of tannin.
