{"id":79,"date":"2020-04-22T16:23:06","date_gmt":"2020-04-22T16:23:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/pelister\/?page_id=79"},"modified":"2020-09-13T08:16:47","modified_gmt":"2020-09-13T08:16:47","slug":"fauna-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/en\/fauna-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Fauna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"en\">The most striking features of the fauna in Pelister National Park are its diversity and heterogeneity, as well as the presence of many relict and endemic species. <strong>Endemic species are mainly registered in invertebrate groups of organisms.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Pelister&#8217;s Earth (Terrestrial) Invertebrate Fauna shows the presence of a total of 288 taxa, belonging to a total of 10 groups of invertebrates.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-638\" src=\"http:\/\/pelister.development.ivote.mk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/\u0425\u0435\u0440\u043f\u0430\u043a\u0442\u043e\u0438\u0434\u043d\u043e-\u0440\u0430\u043a\u0447\u0435-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"395\" height=\"237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/\u0425\u0435\u0440\u043f\u0430\u043a\u0442\u043e\u0438\u0434\u043d\u043e-\u0440\u0430\u043a\u0447\u0435-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/\u0425\u0435\u0440\u043f\u0430\u043a\u0442\u043e\u0438\u0434\u043d\u043e-\u0440\u0430\u043a\u0447\u0435-768x460.jpg 768w, https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/\u0425\u0435\u0440\u043f\u0430\u043a\u0442\u043e\u0438\u0434\u043d\u043e-\u0440\u0430\u043a\u0447\u0435.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 395px) 100vw, 395px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From invertebrates, a small glacial population of the Chirocephalus diaphanus carinatus, which represents the Balkan relict-endemic taxon, is found in the small glacial lake &#8220;Little Lake&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The amphibian shrimp Niphragus pancici peristericus, a Pelister endemic, living only in this lake, lives exclusively in the large glacial lake &#8220;Big Lake&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Only in the waters of these two glacial lakes is the harpacticoid shrimp Arcticocampus macedonicus, a Pelister endemic species.<\/p>\n<p>In the natural waters of NP Pelister, at an altitude of between 1600 and 2200 m, live two Pelister relict-endemic species of <strong>Ostracodes:<\/strong> (<em>Iliodromus peristericus <\/em>and<em> Eucypris diebeli<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Religious-endemic faunal elements are also present in the mountain streams and rivers of the National Park. The <strong>Macedonian endemic plexopathy<\/strong> (<em>Nemoura peristeri)<\/em> is described by the Magarevska River.<\/p>\n<p>Several Pelister endemic species are present throughout the forest and high mountain belt, such as: the <strong>Pelister centipede<\/strong> (<em>Brachydesmus peristerensis)<\/em>; <strong>Beetles<\/strong>: (<em>Alpaeus macedonica, Cychrus attenuatus peristericus, Duvaliotes peristericus, Platyduvalius macedonicus, Trechus hajeki<\/em>), <strong>Night butterfly<\/strong> (<em>Hadena clara macedonica<\/em>) and <strong>Small butterflies:<\/strong> (S<em>cythris crypta <\/em>and<em> Scythris similis<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Among the vertebrates in Pelister, in addition exist 2 species of fish, are present\u00a0 12 species of amphibians, 16 species of reptiles (or 50% or from the diversity of reptiles in RS Macedonia), 116 species of birds (5 of which are extinct) and 47 species of mammals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-639\" src=\"http:\/\/pelister.development.ivote.mk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/salmo-pelagonicus-1-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"323\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/salmo-pelagonicus-1-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/salmo-pelagonicus-1-768x505.jpg 768w, https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/salmo-pelagonicus-1.jpg 779w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-640\" src=\"http:\/\/pelister.development.ivote.mk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pastrmka-1-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pastrmka-1-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pastrmka-1.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are two types of trout within the National Park. Only in the upper reaches of the rivers Sapundzica, Zlokukjanska and Rotinska rivers live the more accurate trout (<em>Salmo pelagonicus<\/em>), and in the Brajcinska River live the <strong>Pelister trout<\/strong> (<em>Salmo peristericus<\/em>) which are Pelister endemic species.<\/p>\n<p>The high mountain belt of Pelister is inhabited by a specific fauna. which is a mosaic of relict Mediterranean high-mountain elements, then boreal, arcto-alpine and steppe faunal elements. Through the wet meadows and pastures with lush vegetation you can see the <strong>Mountain lizard<\/strong> (<em>Lacerta agilis<\/em>), the <strong>Hinge<\/strong> (<em>Vipera berus<\/em>), the <strong>Coniferous meadow<\/strong> (<em>Microtus subterraneus<\/em>), the<strong> Eurasian pygmy shrew<\/strong> (Sorex minutus), the relict <strong>Mole<\/strong> (<em>Talpa stankovici<\/em>) and the<strong> Lesser mole-rat <\/strong><em>(Nannospalax leucodon)<\/em><strong><em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Among the birds, the characteristic species for this belt are: the <strong>Red-headed gull<\/strong> <em>(Pyrrhocorax pyrrhochorax)<\/em>, the <strong>Scapegoat<\/strong> (<em>Monticola saxatilis<\/em>), the <strong>White-tailed hedgehog<\/strong> <em>(Turdus torquatus<\/em>) and the<strong> Partridge<\/strong> (<em>Alectoris graeca<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Four mammal taxa have been described for the first time by sites within the National Park: <strong>Balkan blind mole<\/strong> (<em>Talpa caeca beaucournii<\/em>), a typical inhabitant of moth forests. <strong>Balkan mole<\/strong> <em>(Talpa stankovici<\/em>), described on the basis of specimens collected from mountain meadows in the National Park. This species is registered as Macedonian &#8211; subendemite, because it is found in part in the border areas of Greece and Albania.<br \/>\n<strong>Macedonian leafy melon<\/strong> (<em>Clethrionomys glareolus makedonicus<\/em>), first recorded and described by the deciduous and mixed forests of Pelister, is also a Macedonian endemic. <strong>Macedonian meadow<\/strong> <em>(Microtus felteni)<\/em>, described by the Pelister rainforests, is a Macedonian endemic because it has so far been registered only in the mountains of Western Macedonia.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-644\" src=\"http:\/\/pelister.development.ivote.mk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Balkanski-ris-Balkan-Lynx-Linx-linx-martino-300x233.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"385\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Balkanski-ris-Balkan-Lynx-Linx-linx-martino-300x233.jpg 300w, https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Balkanski-ris-Balkan-Lynx-Linx-linx-martino-768x595.jpg 768w, https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Balkanski-ris-Balkan-Lynx-Linx-linx-martino.jpg 774w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 385px) 100vw, 385px\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-645\" src=\"http:\/\/pelister.development.ivote.mk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Roe-Deer-Capreolus-capreolus-Srna-221x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"221\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Roe-Deer-Capreolus-capreolus-Srna-221x300.jpg 221w, https:\/\/park-pelister.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Roe-Deer-Capreolus-capreolus-Srna.jpg 588w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 221px) 100vw, 221px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Within the forest belt of the National Park, the following<strong> vertebrates are most often present:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Fire Salamander <em>(Saiamandra salamandra),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Macedonian Crested Newt <em>(Trituruis carnifex macedonicus),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Agile Frog <em>(Rana dalmatina),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Stream Frog <em>(Rana graeca),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Tree Frog <em>(Hyla \u0430rharea),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Common Hermann&#8217;s Tortoise<em> (Testudo hermanni),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Aesculapian Snake <em>(Elaphe longissima),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Smooth Snake<em> (Coronella austriaca),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Woodcock <em>(Scolopax rusticola),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Hazelhen<em> (Bonasa bonasia),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Eagle Owl <em>(Bubo bubo),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Tawny Owl <em>(Strix aluco),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 European Nightjar<em> (Caprimulgus europaeus),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Black Woodpecker <em>(Dryocopus martius),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Green Woodpecker<em> (Picus viridis),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Goshawk <em>(Accipiter gentilis),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Golden Eagle <em>(Aquilla chrysaetos),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Eastern Hedgehog <em>(Erinaceus concolor),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Red Squirrel <em>(Sciurus vulgaria),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Common Dormouse <em>(Muscardinus avellanarius),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Forest Dormouse<em> (Dryomys nitedula),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Edible Dormouse<em> (Glis glis),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Brown Hare <em>(Lepus europaeus),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Beech Marten <em>(Martes foina),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Badger <em>(Meles meles),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Red Fox <em>(Vulpes vulpes),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wildcat <em>(Felis silvestris),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Balkan Lynx<em> (Lynx lynx martinoi).<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wolf <em>(Canis lupus),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Brown Bear <em>(Ursus arctos),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Wild Boar <em>(Sus scrofa),<\/em><br \/>\n\uf0b7 Red Deer<em> (Cervus elaphus)<\/em> and<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Roe Deer <em>(Capreolus capreolus).<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The most striking features of the fauna in Pelister National Park are its diversity and heterogeneity, as well as the presence of many relict and endemic species.
