Location

Pelister National Park is located in the south-western part of the Republic of Macedonia, encompassing an area of 17.150 ha on the northern side of the Baba massif at altitudes between 900 and 2601m. The regional road Bitola-Resen and the Bigla Mountain are to the north of the Park and the border with Greece is to the south. To the east of the Park are the Pelagonide valley and the city of Bitola and to the west are the Prespa valley and the city of Resen.

The law establishing the Park (O.J. P.R.M. 38/48) describes the boundaries of the Park by words only and states and area of 12.500 ha; no map is provided whatsoever. Following the description and using the GIS technology for a precise calculation, the size of the area is determined at 10.870 ha. The differences arise from the different interpretation of the textual description of the area and the alternative way of connecting the nodes (localities/places) mentioned in the textual description.
